A late scoring burst, a dramatic final-quarter turnaround and a narrow representative victory highlighted the hockey action in Moree on Saturday, July 25.
Rabbit Hop defeats Dave’s Platinum Tinting
Rabbit Hop opened the day with a 4-1 win over Dave’s Platinum Tinting.
Claire Montgomery put Rabbit Hop ahead with an early goal in the first quarter, before her side added a second goal midway through the match. Dave’s Platinum Tinting stayed in the contest when Sophie Venz finished a strong attacking run to reduce the margin to one.
Rabbit Hop then took control in the closing minutes. Continued pressure on the Dave’s Platinum Tinting defence produced two late goals, turning a close contest into a convincing three-goal victory.
Cogan’s Agronomy storms home
The second match followed a different pattern, with Rhodes Kildea and Cogan’s Agronomy locked in a tight battle for the first three quarters.
Sarah Osborne scored the only goal during that period, giving Rhodes Kildea a narrow lead. The match changed after two Rhodes Kildea players had to leave the field for separate reasons, creating gaps in the team’s formation.
Cogan’s Agronomy capitalised in the final quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to complete a 4-1 comeback victory. Amber Devine led the charge with three goals, while Guy Bayley scored the other.
Moree edges Inverell in representative match
Moree hosted Inverell in the second representative match between the sister hockey clubs this season.
Conditions proved difficult for both teams, with dry ground and widening cracks across the pitch affecting play. Despite several chances at both ends, only one goal separated the sides.
Blake Townsend and Sam Dunlop combined in the decisive attacking move as Moree secured a 1-0 victory over Inverell.
