Late goals proved the difference in two closely fought Moree Hockey Association winter competition matches on Saturday, July 4, with Rabbit Hop Films and Dave’s Platinum Tinting each securing hard-fought 1-0 victories.
The opening match featured a tense battle between Cogan’s Agronomy and Rabbit Hop Films. Both sides traded possession throughout the game, but neither could find a way through the opposition’s defence.
The match remained locked at nil-all for most of the contest, with both teams staying in the fight and refusing to give up easy chances.
The breakthrough finally came in the final five minutes of play, when Rabbit Hop player Blake Townsend scored the deciding goal. It proved enough to secure a 1-0 win for Rabbit Hop Films before time ran out.
The second match between Rhodes Kildea and Dave’s Platinum Tinting followed a similarly tight and defensive pattern. The game also remained scoreless for much of the contest, with both teams searching for the opening goal.
Rhodes Kildea appeared to have broken the deadlock when the side put the ball in the net, but the goal was later disallowed by officials, keeping the match level at nil-all.
Dave’s Platinum Tinting then took advantage of the reprieve, with Julie Rushby scoring what proved to be the only official goal of the game. Her strike secured a 1-0 win for Dave’s Platinum Tinting.
Both fixtures highlighted an evenly matched round for the local winter competition, which caters to players aged 12 and over.
Strong defensive efforts from all four teams kept clear scoring opportunities to a minimum across Saturday’s matches, ensuring late breakthroughs were needed to decide both results.
