LEADING country jockey Clayton Gallagher rode five winners from five rides at Enngonia on Saturday – the second time the ace rider has achieved such a feat.
Gallagher’s Enngonia quintet – with a collective winning margin of a whopping 23 lengths – included a treble for Charleville trainer Bill Pugsley.
Gallagher and Pugsley teamed up with Enngonia Cup winner Greek Star, class 1 handicap winner Edwards and BM-45 handicap winner Mistrey Emperor.
Brett Robb’s maiden plate winner Keep Ya Promise and Alistair Webb’s class 2 handicap winner Mon Pierre rounded out Gallagher’s five-win haul.
The Dubbo-based jockey also rode five winners at Warren Jockey Club’s seven-race card in July last year – I Like Big Putts, Jet Empress, Raiding, Powderfinger and Hardly The End.
Out west on Saturday, Gallagher parked $3.20 favourite Greek Star just off the speed in the 1400m Dunk Insurance Enngonia Cup.
The seven-year-old charged clear to score by a length from Monique Gavin’s Crazy Russian ($8), with Connie Greig’s Belle O’Ballee ($7.50) three-quarters of a length away third.
“Greek Star began great and sat just behind the leaders,” Gallagher said.
“I popped him out on the home turn and he proved too good.”

Mistrey Emperor ($5.50) gave nothing a chance in the 1200m Nutrien Walsh Hughes BM-45 Handicap, racing clear to win by nearly six lengths from Seeburg ($3.50) and Parnassus ($8).
Edwards ($3.50 eq fav) was just as impressive in the 1400m Thomas Foods International Class 1 Handicap.
The gelding, having just its ninth start, won by more than four-and-a-half lengths from equal favourite Jamaican with Hammoon Sunshine ($13) six lengths away third.
“Mistrey Emperor led all the way and kicked on the turn and Edwards was a good win. He sat behind the leaders and pushed through in the straight and won really well,” Gallagher said.
Mon Pierre ($4) was arguably Gallagher’s most impressive winner. The five-year-old raced away to win the 1200m Bourke Steel & Hire Class 2 Handicap by nearly 11 lengths from Pahang ($3.60) and Ballycastle ($7).
Brett Robb’s $1.90 favourite Keep Ya Promise defied all challenges in the 1000m Western Plains Automotive & Lower Lila Retreat Maiden Plate, beating Loniesha ($3.20) and Makers ($10) by three-parts of a length.
“Mon Pierre sat behind the leader and let loose at the 450 metre-mark to put a space on the field with ease,” Gallagher said.
“Keep Ya Promise was challenged for the lead but was just too good on the day.”
Gallagher heads to Narromine on Monday, where he has five rides, including Where’stheprofit and Not Written Off for Scone trainer Cameron Crockett.
He also rides Brett Thompson’s The Git Up, Ishamashi for Gayna Williams and David Smith’s Rebel Dreamer.
