THE future of rugby is in very good hands, with Moree Junior Rugby Club enjoying a terrific season, filled with footy, friendship and competitions across the Central North region.
The recent Armidale Gala Day marked the end of the season.
And, for a number of under-12 players and their families, the gala day also signalled the end of their junior rugby journey.
Moree Junior Rugby Club president Bill Adams said end-of-season was always bittersweet, and he was buoyed by the strong numbers and enthusiasm within the Moree club.
“It’s a long season and a fair bit of travel, so I thank all the parents and families who contributed to our incredible season – it’s no mean feat travelling across New South Wales on a Sunday, but the passion, sportsmanship, friendships and skills this competition builds is so worth it,” Adams said.
“We have a strong club, and we’re proud to be providing an opportunity for kids to learn the value of teamwork, stay active and make some great mates – locally, and from across the central north.”
The club recently held its annual presentation afternoon and family barbecue, and acknowledged some of the stand-outs of the season.
was a trifecta for the Meppem family, with the three boys – Angus, Hugh and Hudson – scoring each being awarded best-and-fairest in their age groups.
Adams said the presentation afternoon reflected the spirit of the competition.
“It’s great to see our players so excited for their fellow team mates. This is what what good sports is about, and it’s what we try to instil through Moree junior rugby,” he said.
Adams thanked this year’s coaches, under-6s’ Brent Hook and previously Brad Donald, under-8s’ Dave Nolan, under-10s’ Michael Picone and Mathew Gaukroger, under-12s’ Tim Poole and Toby Makim and secretary, Samantha Hart.
“We appreciate the time and effort all our coaches and committee go to volunteering their time,” Adams said.
“The impact everyone has on these children’s lives cannot be underestimated. You’re providing them with skills and role models that they will remember for the rest of their lives, and we’re very grateful to you for taking time out of your busy schedules for the sake of our awesome Moree kids – thank you,” he said
