Webb Oval could become Moree’s new off-leash dog park under a proposal from Moree Plains Shire Council.
The Stage 1 plan includes separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, secure double-gate entries and irrigated grass. It also includes agility equipment, drinking fountains with dog bowls, waste bag dispensers, picnic seating, more shade trees and landscaping. The plan also proposes keeping the existing barbecue shelter and amenity block.
Council describes Webb Oval as currently underutilised and says the proposal would provide a safe, enclosed space for dogs to exercise off-leash.
The proposal was endorsed for public exhibition at Council’s Ordinary Meeting on October 16, 2025. The public consultation was announced on August 10, 2026, almost 10 months later.
The Council media release does not give a cost for Stage 1 or a timetable for construction.
Cr Pearse said public feedback would help shape the final design.
“Council is always looking for ways to improve the recreational spaces available to our community. The proposed off-leash dog park is designed to provide a safe, welcoming environment for dog owners while making better use of an existing community asset,” she said.
“We are excited to present this concept. Our community has been crying out for a decent off-leash dog park, so we would love to hear their thoughts and feedback on the design.”
Future stages could also include changes to access around Webb Oval. Council has proposed widening the driveway from Boggabilla Road, as well as building a new car park and gravel RV standing area near the existing dump point.
Residents can comment on the Stage 1 concept through Council’s online survey.
Submissions close at 11.59pm on Sunday, September 6.
