There are few places where champion cattle, campdraft horses and working dogs can share the spotlight with camel races, demolition derbies and a helicopter dropping lollies from the sky.
That unique mix returns this weekend as the 2026 Mungindi Show opens for three days of competition, entertainment and country tradition, bringing together exhibitors, competitors and visitors from across the district.
While agriculture remains the heart of the show, the program has grown well beyond the traditional livestock rings. Across the weekend, the showgrounds will host everything from commercial cattle judging and campdraft to fireworks, live music, arena spectaculars and children’s attractions, creating an event that celebrates both rural life and country community.
The agricultural program remains as strong as ever. Commercial cattle, horse events, campdraft, yard dog trials and woodchopping all feature prominently, alongside horse sporting, livestock competitions and the Young Farmers Challenge, ensuring the skills and industries that underpin the district remain front and centre.
Away from the judging rings, the arena program offers a very different kind of spectacle.
Among the returning attractions are the Car Demolition Derby and the Header versus Picker Derby, where two machines synonymous with north-west farming go head-to-head in an entertaining contest. The Horse versus Motorbike Challenge also returns, while camel races once again promise plenty of colour and action on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday evening rounds out one of the show’s biggest days, with a helicopter lolly drop, an inland fireworks display and live music from country performer Darby Carroll.
Families are also well catered for throughout the weekend. Carnival rides will operate across the show, joined by Old MacDonald’s Petting Zoo, appearances from Bluey and Bingo, the Mini Kids Bouncy Rodeo and a range of children’s activities.
Visitors keen to join in rather than watch will find no shortage of opportunities. The Ute Show returns alongside the Invitational Grain Shovelling competition, Murph’s Beards, Mullets and Mo Muster, the pet parade, dog competition, dog high jump and Poet’s Brunch featuring special guest Murray Hartin.
The Mungindi Show remains far more than a showcase of competition. It is one of the district’s biggest annual gatherings, bringing together rural industries, volunteers, exhibitors, families and visitors for a weekend that reflects both the traditions of country shows and the changing ways they continue to entertain new generations.
The 2026 Mungindi Show runs from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9 at the Mungindi Showgrounds.
Gates open from 3pm on Friday and 7am on Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday gate tickets are available through TryBooking, while Sunday gate entry is free. Competition nominations for many events are being handled through ShowDay Online.
Whether visitors come for the livestock, the competition, the entertainment or simply to catch up with friends, the weekend promises another celebration of country life on both sides of the Queensland-New South Wales border.
