What began as an opportunity for cattle producers to inspect one of the district’s leading Shorthorn bull drafts has evolved into a showcase of where the beef industry is heading.
When Weebollabolla Shorthorns opens its gates on Monday, August 10, visitors won’t just be looking over the stud’s 2026 draft sale bulls. They’ll also be able to explore virtual fencing, see one of the latest agricultural drones, hear from cattle breeding specialists and discuss everything from genetics to seasonal management with some of the industry’s leading voices.
The open day begins at 9am and is designed to give commercial producers practical information they can take back to their own operations.
The centrepiece of the day remains Weebollabolla’s 2026 draft of sale bulls.
The draft offers producers an opportunity to inspect the bulls well ahead of the stud’s annual sale, discuss bloodlines and performance with the Weebollabolla team, and begin assessing which sires may suit their own breeding programs.
The event also provides an insight into a breeding program built over generations. The Munro family’s association with Weebollabolla dates back to 1873, while the property’s first on-property bull sale was held in 1968 after growing demand from commercial cattle producers.
Technology will be a major focus throughout the day.
Halter will introduce producers to its virtual fencing system, which replaces conventional internal fences with GPS-enabled collars and digital boundaries. Rather than simply viewing the technology, visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly with Halter representatives about how virtual fencing is being used to manage grazing, move cattle and reduce labour requirements on commercial properties.
Agricultural drone specialist Stratos Ag will also be on hand with its XAG P150 drone.
While drones have become increasingly common across broadacre agriculture, the P150 is designed for large-scale spraying and spreading applications, giving producers an opportunity to see first-hand how the technology is being adapted for livestock and mixed farming enterprises.
Breeding will remain another major talking point.
Representatives from Bovine Breeders will discuss artificial insemination and modern breeding techniques, giving producers an opportunity to learn how reproductive technologies can complement traditional sire selection and help accelerate genetic improvement within commercial herds.
Livestock marketing and seasonal decision-making will also feature strongly.
Elders Inverell and BJA Stock and Station Agents will join the program, bringing practical experience from across northern New South Wales to discussions about cattle production, genetics and operating through variable seasons.
The speaker panel includes Weebollabolla’s Jen Jeffreys, Ben Hiscox from BJA Stock and Station Agents, Nathan Kruidenier from Bovine Breeders and Cye Travers from AAM investments, who will discuss cattle breeding, genetics and managing the challenges of volatile seasons.
The day will conclude with a session hosted by Cattle Australia examining the Beef Cattle Transaction Levy.

The August 10 event continues Weebollabolla’s tradition of combining its annual bull program with producer education, while expanding the focus beyond cattle genetics to include many of the technologies and management practices shaping the future of beef production.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day, with the open day commencing at 9am at Weebollabolla, Terry Hie Hie Road, Moree. The 2026 Weebollabolla Shorthorns Bull Sale will follow on Friday, September 11.
