THE NSW Government has shared key milestones for the Moree Special Activation Precinct, with the past 12 months tagged as a big year behind the scenes.
NSW Public Works recently closed tenders for the stage 1 infrastructure works.
The tender followed a call for expressions of interest to find suitably qualified and capable contractors to deliver the detailed design and construction of the stage 1 infrastructure works.
The works will deliver roads, drainage, water, sewer, and electrical services to activate industrial land for development.
A comprehensive evaluation process is currently underway, with the successful tenderer to be awarded the contract in the coming months.
Moree Plains Shire mayor Susannah Pearse said work on the Moree Special Activation Precinct is progressing with pace.
“For our community to sustain and grow our population over the coming years, we need to diversify our economy and create jobs in new industries,” Cr Pearse said.
“The SAP has potential to provide that and we are hugely grateful for this substantial investment by the NSW Government.
“At the same time, council needs to manage our finances carefully. Once complete, the infrastructure built for the SAP will be largely handed over to council, and we will have to ensure we can fund maintenance, renewals without impacting on our existing ratepayers,” she said.

The State Government says this is an exciting “next-step” for the Moree precinct, with construction works set to commence in 2026.
As stage 1 of the Moree precinct begins development, Moree Plains Shire Council is providing opportunities for investment through the Moree Gateway, selling blocks of land for commercial and light industrial businesses with access to the streamlined planning benefits of the precinct.
Existing businesses and landowners within the precinct are encouraged to reach out to specialist teams to discuss opportunities to expand or develop sites or to understand the benefits of being situated in the precinct.
Special Activation Precincts in Moree, Parkes, Wagga Wagga, and the Snowy Mountains are part of the NSW Government’s major and transformative infrastructure program.
2026 will see Moree precinct activities, including a community information event hosted by the government’s Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation to provide a precinct status update and discussion with experts.
There will also be detailed design work and commencement of infrastructure construction and continuation of the $13.5 million Essential Energy zone substation upgrade, with completion anticipated in 2027.
Next year will bring focused investment attraction activities and registration of interest for land.
RGDC offers in-house sustainability support for both existing businesses and businesses on their development journey.
In addition to support services, the sustainability team also facilitates projects and initiatives on behalf of the precinct.
RGDC is facilitating the uptake of renewable energy within the Special Activation Precincts.
The project leverages the aggregated purchasing power of the precinct to deliver business benefits and sustainability outcomes.
The first phase is focused on facilitating a pool of buyers for a Power Purchase Agreement on behalf of precinct businesses.
A PPA is a financial agreement to purchase renewable electricity from either a specific renewable generation and/or storage project or through a PPA retailer.
