NSW Rural Fire Service members in the Northern Tablelands on Saturday celebrated the official re-opening of the Bonshaw Rural Fire Brigade station and the recognition of long-serving volunteers across the region.
The Bonshaw Brigade’s new $230,000 station replaces the facility tragically destroyed by fire in January, 2024.
The modern, two-bay station will provide improved amenities and serve as an important emergency point for the local community.
Deputy Commissioner Ben Millington said the station opening is about ensuring volunteers have the resources they need to continue their vital work.
“Bonshaw volunteers have shown remarkable resilience, and it is fitting they now have a modern station that reflects their dedication,” Mr Millington said.

“This new facility will serve the community for many years to come.”
Member for Northern Tablelands, Brendan Moylan, attended the official opening.
“The new headquarters are fantastic – extremely well-built, and completed for $200,00,” Mr Moylan said.
“There is full kitchen as well as toilets and showers and is a genuinely good complex.”
As part of celebrations across the district, more than 30 members were also recognised with National and Long Service Medals, acknowledging a combined service of more than 900 years. Among those honoured was Dundee Brigade member Jack Alt, who received the Long Service Medal 5th Clasp for an incredible 63 years of service.
“Jack’s lifetime of commitment is an inspiration and reflects a deep sense of community,” Mr Millington said.
“Serving as Secretary for more than 40 years, Jack’s contributions have helped shape the Dundee Brigade’s legacy, and his dedication continues to be appreciated by his fellow members and wider community.
“Our members selflessly give up so much to prepare and protect their communities and I want to take this opportunity to thank them.
“I also acknowledge the family, friends and employers who support volunteers in what they do.
“We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and protect property.”
