NARRABRI Shire councillor Joshua Roberts-Garnsey has resigned from his role, effective immediately.
Mr Roberts-Garnsey has taken much time to reflect and consider his options but has ultimately decided resigning is the best decision.
“After much reflection, I’ve made the decision to resign from my position as councillor for Narrabri Shire Council, effective immediately,” Mr Roberts-Garnsey said.
“Balancing my responsibilities as a full-time teacher with my duties on Council has been both an incredible learning experience and a significant challenge.
“Over time, it’s become clear that I need to step back and focus on my family, my health, and my students.

“Thank you for trusting me to represent you, it’s been an honour.”
Mr Roberts-Garnsey was elected to Council following the Local Government Elections last September.
Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens thanked Mr Roberts-Garnsey for his service to the shire.
“We appreciate Josh’s service as a councillor and wish him all the very best with his future,” Cr Tiemens said.
Under the Local Government Act, a causal vacancy may be filled by a countback from results of the last election if it is within the first 18 months following an ordinary election and if council resolved at its first council meeting following the election to use a countback for such an occurrence.
Mr Roberts-Garnsey’s resignation meets both criteria.
As such, Council has informed the New South Wales Electoral Commission and a returning officer will be appointed to undertake the countback.
Once the countback has been completed, the Commission and Council will announce the newly-appointed councillor to the Shire.
