NSW Police have charged three more teenagers over the alleged break-and-enter of a doctor’s residence attached to a medical facility in Walgett last week.
Officers from Central North Police District responded to reports about 11.15pm on June 19, of a SUV allegedly being driven erratically through the township of Walgett.
It will be alleged that upon locating the SUV officers attempted to stop the vehicle and, when the driver allegedly failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later for safety reasons.
A short time later, the vehicle was located abandoned on Myall Street, Walgett, where it was seized for forensic examination.
Inquiries established that the vehicle had been stolen from a residential premises belonging to a medical facility on Naomi Street about 10pm that evening.
Police will allege a doctor and sole occupant – a 73-year-old man – was inside the home when four people broke into the premises and threatened the man before leaving the location with his mobile phone, wallet and the keys to the vehicle.
Following inquiries, on June 20, police charged a 14-year-old boy in relation to the incident.
Following further inquiries, on June 27 police executed three search warrants at different locations in the Walgett area, before they arrested three teenage boys – all aged 14.
Clothing and mobile phone devices were seized to be forensically examined.
They were charged with aggravated break-and-enter in company steal less than or equal to $60,000, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
They were all refused bail to appear at Children’s Court today, June 28.
In an unrelated incident, a man has been charged at Coonamble over alleged firearm and traffic offences in western New South Wales.
At about 11pm on June 25, officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly travelling in excess of the speed limit along the Castlereagh Highway, Gulargambone.
When the vehicle failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.
It will be alleged that during the pursuit the occupants of the vehicle shun a spotlight in the direction of the police vehicle and also reached speeds of 160kmh.
During the pursuit road spikes were successfully deployed along the Castlereagh Highway at Coonamble.
A short time later the vehicle came to a stop where two male occupants ran from the vehicle.
Police arrested the driver – a 20-year-old man – after a foot pursuit. The other male was unable to be located.
The man was taken to Coonamble Police Station where inquiries established he was wanted over an alleged public place shooting earlier this month.
Police will allege about 4.20pm on June 20 on Victoria Street, Dubbo, the man discharged a rifle round into a car containing four people known to him.
The man then drove from the scene in another vehicle without the permission of the registered owner.
No persons were injured in the incident.
It will also be alleged that the man has previously been served with a firearms prohibition order and has never held a driver’s licence.
He was charged with seven offences including fire firearm in or near public place, use unauthorised firearm; acquire etc firearm – subject to prohibition order; take and drive conveyance without consent of owner; police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously; and never licensed person drive vehicle on road – prior offence (2).
The man was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Dubbo Local Court on July 9.
Investigations into the identity of the second male who ran from the vehicle after the pursuit are continuing.
