ARMIDALE’S much-anticipated Autumn Festival will dance to a different tune this year, with the introduction of a spectacular evening concert showcasing the talent of the region’s finest musicians.
Sounds of Autumn – co-ordinated by the New England Conservatorium of Music – will feature performances from students, staff and professional musicians.
The evening performances, featuring New England Brass Collective, JAZZ LAB!, Armidale Youth Winds, New England Singers and the Armidale Youth Orchestra to name a few, will kick off from 5.30pm on Friday April 4 in Armidale’s Civic Park.
In addition to the musical performances, the event will feature a variety of gourmet food trucks offering delicious meals, snacks, and beverages for festival-goers to enjoy as they take in the Sounds of Autumn.
Armidale Regional Council mayor, Sam Coupland said the Armidale Autumn Festival is an event the community can embrace.
“Not only is it a chance to embrace and celebrate our much-heralded change of seasons that we are renowned for, but the addition of this musical extravaganza will also showcase the exceptional musical talent we have in our region,” Cr Coupland said.
“I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to join us for the incredible events that make up this year’s Autumn Festival and celebrate the vibrant spirit and talent our region has to offer.”
Malcolm Liddell, a brass and percussion teacher and co-ordinator of community engagement at NECOM, said he was excited about working with a broad range of conservatorium musical groups to bring the inaugural Sounds of Autumn concert to life.
“This concert will be a celebration of Armidale’s musical talent, featuring performances from a range of ensembles that reflect the diversity of our community,” Mr Liddell said.

Concert goers are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and chairs to Civic Park on Friday, April 4 and enjoy the food stands available before the concert starts.
