The Uralla Memorial Literary Institute Inc were awarded funding from the Anzac Community Grants program and will use the money to add a holographic and video display to their electronic and visual tributes to fallen soldiers.
The Institute is a volunteer run organisation which has numerous displays and artefacts honouring Uralla’s servicemen and women.
It is a fantastic war memorial and very important to the Uralla community.
I went and visited the Institute this week to announce the funding and check out what they do. I was very impressed with Max Schultz and his team of volunteers who work tirelessly on the upkeep of the facility. It is a great tribute and show of respect to those people from Uralla who have served Australia throughout our history.
If you are in Uralla or visiting, I encourage you to check out the Institute at 55 Bridge Street and see it for yourself. It is open seven days a week from 8am until 5pm.
Rotary catch-up
I caught up with the Rotary Club of Armidale Central for a luncheon and a meet and greet. Thank you for your hospitality and the engaging conversations.
Inverell visits
It was great to get over to Inverell and visit the ambulance station, the new aquatic centre and the show.
I met with staff at the ambulance station to discuss rosters, staff numbers and getting a better of idea of the issues facing paramedics in the Northern Tablelands. I will be using that meeting as the basis of Questions on Notice and Private Members’ Statements in Parliament.
The Inverell Aquatic Centre officially re-opened its doors on Thursday after a $25 million renovation. There’s a new eight-lane 50 metre outdoor/ indoor pool, a smaller warm pool with a moveable floor as well as an indoor splash park and toddler’s pool. Congratulations to Inverell Shire Council on this fantastic new facility.
The Inverell Show is underway, and it was good to see it in action.
With show season in full swing, Brendan Moylan called into the Inverell Show, where there’s a massive program on offer.
Moree Hospital redevelopment update
The project has received planning approval which means from 2025, the project team will be back onsite and working with staff and stakeholders to finalise the design. Then the construction and delivery phase can begin.
It is expected there will be disruptions and changes to access and parking on the grounds.
Four formal submissions were received as part of the Moree Hospital redevelopments public exhibition. They have been reviewed and documented.

Show Season
The Guyra Show was the most recent on our region’s calendar. Congratulations to everyone involved for such a successful event.
Friday and Saturday this week will see the Inverell Show while next weekend will be the Armidale Show.
Shows bring the community together and are also great for the local economy so get along and support them and see what’s on offer.
Free learn to swim program
A new learn to swim and water safety program aimed at at-risk groups – low-income earners, multicultural communities, First Nations people and people in regional areas – has been launched by the NSW Government.
The program offers 10 free lessons through 15 learn to swim providers. It is aimed at reducing drowning risks and the lessons will focus on swimming and water safety skills. Providers will commence delivery of the program in coming months.

Building Early Learning Places Program
The Building Early Learning Places Program aims to increase early childhood education and care (ECEC) places for priority groups such as children with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and those from culturally diverse backgrounds.
The program is backed by backed by $20 million from the NSW Childcare and Economic Opportunity Fund. It focuses on funding not-for-profit community preschools and long day care centres that can begin construction within 12 months of approval. Eligible projects include new builds, extensions, or renovations to expand ECEC services in undersupplied areas.
Applicants must be Australian-registered, not-for-profit, or local government entities, and must meet specific criteria to deliver culturally safe and inclusive environments.
The program’s objectives include improving ECEC accessibility, supporting inclusive environments, and providing insights for future capital projects.

Service NSW mobile centres
Service NSW is bringing their mobile service centres to Uralla and Guyra on March 11.
In Guyra, they will be set up at the public car park at 119 Bradley Street on from 9am until 12pm.
Then it will be in Uralla at Apex Memorial Park 55 Bridge Street from 1.30pm until 4pm.
