MOREE shire residents are urged to clear out the shed, tidy up the yard and think about finally getting rid of that old furniture and whitegoods as Moree Plains Shire Council calls on registrations for its bulky waste collection next month.
Council offers two free scheduled bulky waste collections each year – March and September – with online registrations now being called for next month’s pick-up.

Bookings for collections in Moree township and surrounds, including Gurley, Gwydirville and Bendygleet, close at 5pm, Friday, March 7, with collection commencing Monday, March 10.
Across the shire, collections will also take place at Ashley, Biniguy, Boggabilla, Boomi, Garah, Mungindi, Pallamallawa, Weemelah, Vitonga Road and Yarraman.
Bookings for village collections close at 5pm, Friday, March 14, with collection commencing Monday, March 17.
Council waste services technical officer, Lana Connolly, said three cubic metres of waste per household is permitted.
“On the weekend before collection starts, residents are encouraged to separate and stack items into four piles on the kerb,” Lana said.
JR Richards Moree acting depot manager, Stephen Harper is preparing for the local bulky waste collection across the Moree Plains in March.
Piles should be clearly designated for general household waste, green waste, metals, and whitegoods and e-waste.
No items should be put out or added to the existing piles after Sunday night before the collection starts even if waste remains.
Items with the green light for collection include mattresses and sofas, furniture, rugs and carpets, clothing and shoes, timber and wooden pallets, toys, broken garden tools and pots, garden prunings and clippings less than 1.8 metres in length, tree stumps or thick branches less than 250mm in diameter, kitchen appliances and whitegoods with doors removed, scrap metal and empty tins, lawn mowers and bicycles, fencing and bundled wiring, air-conditioners and humidifiers, and E-waste.

Items not suitable for collection include containers with liquids, toxic or hazardous waste, demolition waste, vehicle parts, rocks or soil, glass or mirrors, fluorescent lighting tubes, gas bottles or canisters, and tree stumps or thick branches more than 250mm in diameter.
Council asks residents to stack bulky waste neatly and safely.
Box, tie or contain all loose items, wrap sharp edges, remove doors from whitegoods, remove or cut cords from faulty electrical equipment, dispose of fluids appropriately and place lids on containers that may collect more than 30mm of water.
“Hazardous or toxic materials should be personally taken to Moree Waste Management Facility,” Lana said.
Council also strongly encourages residents to recycle unwanted goods where possible.
“Items put on the kerb are recycled where possible, but mostly they will end up going directly to landfill,” Lana said.
“We encourage residents to consider re-homing items by selling, donating or giving them away.”
