MARK the calendar – the Minerama Fossicking, Gem & Jewellery Show returns to Glen Innes Showgrounds from March 7-9.
As one of Glen Innes Severn Council’s premier events, Minerama is a must-visit for fossicking enthusiasts, gemstone lovers and jewellery collectors.
Mayor Margot Davis anticipates this year’s Minerama will be the most dazzling yet, with an unprecedented line-up of traders showcasing an extraordinary array of gems, minerals, crystals and jewellery.
“Minerama is one of the largest and most dynamic events of its kind in NSW, drawing families, collectors, and enthusiasts alike,” Cr Davis said.
“It’s a vibrant celebration of Earth’s treasures, where visitors can unearth rare finds, immerse themselves in the world of gemstones and engage in activities that captivate all ages.
“As a flagship event in the Glen Innes Highlands, autumn sets the perfect backdrop for exploration.
“Whether visitors are here for the day or making a weekend of it, Minerama offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the region’s rich geological heritage and welcoming community,” she said.
This year, the team at Glen Innes Highlands events has focused on providing free children’s activities, thanks to the generous support of local businesses.
Children under 16 can enjoy the event without financial barriers, while parents relax at the Rockhounds Rest Area next to the Showgrounds event ring.

Kids can participate in activities like making rock creations and Rockhound badges, enjoying face-painting and much more.
The 2025 program includes the return of crowd favourites like Jurassic Jack, the Base Zero climbing wall, and UNE Discovery Voyager, offering free educational sessions for local schools on Friday, March 7.
On Saturday, March 8, UNE Discovery will host the Ask an Expert experience, where kids can explore fossils and meteorites with Stargazing Adventures.
A highlight this year is the new Centenary Pavilion, where the Glen Innes Mineral and Gem Club will showcase daily demonstrations of cabochon polishing, gem-cutting and faceting.
Demonstration times will be displayed on-site, and visitors can also purchase gem wash bags near the Bourke Street entrance or join fossicking field trips and workshops throughout the weekend.
Visitors can also expect a new look to the Outside Trader area, which has been slightly relocated to accommodate a record number of traders and create a safer, seamless journey through the bustling alleyways of marquees and trailers.
Expect uncut rocks, sparkling opals, high-quality fossicking and gem-cutting equipment, rare fossils and unique jewellery pieces – as well as the fascinating characters behind them.
Inside, the pavilions will be packed with exquisite crystals, fine jewellery and rare specimens waiting to be discovered.
Beyond the Showgrounds, the gem fever spreads across the region.
The Emmaville Mining Museum boasts one of Australia’s largest mineral and gem collections, while The Makers Shed in Deepwater will host silversmithing workshops, giving visitors a chance to create their own unique pieces.
