DUE to ongoing issues with the local water supply, the Mungindi community is advised Level 5 water restrictions are to remain in place until further notice.
This extension is a direct result of continuing water quality concerns, which have led to the need for a Boil Water Alert.
Despite efforts to resolve the situation, the high demand for water has made it impossible for Council to flush the mains, which would normally improve water quality.
As a result, the community must continue to adhere to Level 5 water restrictions and take precautions to ensure the safety of drinking water.
All water intended for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil.
Kettles with automatic shut-off functions are suitable for this purpose.
After boiling, allow water to cool before storing it in a clean container with a lid, and refrigerate if necessary.
Bottled water or cooled boiled water should be used for drinking, washing uncooked food (salads, fruits and vegetables, making ice, brushing teeth, gargling, pet drinking water and dishwashing.
Dishes should be washed in hot, soapy water or, where available, in a dishwasher.
The community is urged to conserve water wherever possible in order to help alleviate the pressure on the water system and facilitate quicker resolution of the issue.
If the Boil Water Alert and Level 5 restrictions are still in effect when school returns, Council will make bottled water available for students.
Newly-appointed interim general manager, Natalia Cowley, acknowledges the inconvenience this ongoing water issue is causing the Mungindi community.
Council staff are working around the clock to resolve it.
“In the meantime, we appreciate the co-operation and understanding of residents as we continue to manage the water supply in a safe and responsible manner,” Ms Cowley said.
“We ask everyone to be vigilant about water use and to follow the guidelines for safe water consumption.”
