Narrabri Hospital gets $70,000 for outdoor upgrades

PATIENTS and visitors to Narrabri Hospital will soon enjoy a newly transformed outdoor area, thanks to a $70,000 funding boost from the NSW Government.

The upgrade will create a relaxed and comfortable space where clinical conversations and individual client motor skills assessments can take place where appropriate, improving patient experiences and the work environment for staff.

The outdoor area upgrade at Narrabri Hospital will include a clinical space featuring a flyover roof patio, offering essential amenities for year-round comfort, regardless of weather conditions.

Consultation regarding the design and layout of the designated space is expected to commence at the end of 2024, and the space is envisioned to serve as an area of cultural connection for staff, patients and their families and carers, and the broader community. This will also include the installation of Aboriginal artwork.

This investment is part of a broader $12 million commitment to 61 projects under the Regional Health Minor Works Program, aimed at upgrading health facilities in rural and regional areas.

Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park, said the Rural Minor Works Program will allow Hunter New England Local Health District to upgrade the outdoor area at Narrabri Hospital to enhance the working environment for health staff and improve patient experiences.

Member for Barwon, Roy Butler said the upgrade will provide a much-needed open and supportive space for staff and patients and their families.

“We welcome any investment in health infrastructure in Barwon. The community is grateful to have the NSW Government’s support for this project and we look forward to seeing the benefits it will bring once completed,” Mr Butler said.

Executive director of Infrastructure, Planning, and Sustainability, Dr Ramsey Awad, said the revitalised outdoor area will be thoughtfully designed with the patient experience at its core, providing a welcoming and calm environment.

“We are committed to creating a multi-purpose space where clinical discussions and assessments can take place in a more relaxed setting, where appropriate,” Dr Awad said.
