TWO people have died in a truck crash north of Moree.
At about 3.30am Sunday, November 3, emergency services were called to the Newell Highway, about 75km north of Moree, near Buckie Road, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to New England Police District attended and found a B-double truck had rolled over and caught alight.
The fire was extinguished by NSW Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service crews.
The truck driver – a man aged in his 50s – and his passenger, a woman aged in her 60s, died at the scene.
Police have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Newell Highway is open in both directions.
The tragedy follows a fatal car fire near Tenterfield early Friday.
Emergency services were called to the Bruxner Highway, about 3km east of Snake Creek Road, Sandy Flat, near Tenterfield, following reports of a vehicle fire.
NSW Rural Fire Service crews arrived at the scene to find the vehicle destroyed by fire.
Officers attached to New England Police District attended and found a man deceased close by the vehicle.
The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 70s.
A crime scene was established and an investigation has commenced into the circumstance surrounding the incident.
As investigations continue, police urge anyone who may have witnessed the car fire – or has any available dashcam or mobile phone footage – to contact New England Police District or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
Reports will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
